ASCL - Alpine Ski Course Leader

This is for people who have registered to attend an Alpine Ski Leader course or have successfully passed the course. Holders of the ASCL award are accredited to lead groups of skiers with whom they have a pre-existing relationship (e.g. fellow members of a recognised club or organisation, youth groups with which they hold leadership qualifications, pupils or students from an educational establishment within which they are employed, etc).

The ASCL award must be revalidated on a three yearly basis by attendance at an ASCL Refresher course and renewed annually. The membership year runs from 1st November to 31st October every year. On initial registration the fee is taken by the tour operator running the course but you still need to register your details

Alpine Competitor 12 and over

Competitor Registration is necessary for all BASS (British Alpine Seeding System) and BARTS (British Artificial seeding system) competitors and for those athletes needing to obtain a FIS (International) licence. There is an additional £10 if you are not a member of a SSE affiliated club. The membership year runs from 1st November to 31st October every year.

Please note your Snowsport England registration number is also your BASS and BARTS number

FIS (Federation International de Ski) Licence

A FIS licence is required if you are entering international races which are on the FIS calendar. BSS (British Ski and Snowboard) are the British body that issues these licences and for further details please contact them.

16+ Freestyle & Snowboard competitor

If you are competing in SSE Freestyle or Snowboard competitions or needing to obtain a FIS (International) Licence you need to register as a Freestyle/snowboard competitor. There is an additional £10 if you are not a member of a SSE affiliated club. The membership year runs from 1st November to 31st October every year.

U18 Coach & Instructor

If you are attending a level 1/ foundation instructor or UKCP course and under 18 you need to register with Snowsport England. This is for Alpine, Freestyle or Snowboard. Once qualified and licenced this will provide liability insurance cover for you to operate as a coach/instructor within the remit of the qualification.

The Coaching or Instructing Qualification must be revalidated on a three yearly basis and the licence must be renewed annually. The membership year runs from 1st November to 31st October every year.

Nordic & Trainee Instructors

If you are attending a level 1 roller ski or cross county instructor course you need to register with Snowsport England. Once qualified and licenced this will provide liability insurance cover for you to operate as a coach/instructor within the remit of the qualification.

The Instructing Qualification must be revalidated on a three yearly basis and the licence must be renewed annually. The membership year runs from 1st November to 31st October every year
